The Grand Lake Economic Development and Tourism Project is a major tourism destination project lead by Delaware County and the Delaware County Economic Development Authority for the redevelopment of the once highly-rated Shangri-La Resort on Monkey Island. The area consists of 415 acres to be redeveloped with a resort hotel, first-class golf courses, conference center, resort amenities, and residential properties. Private investment is estimated to range between $250 and $500 million. This project seems to generate substantial new investment and tourism business for the State of Oklahoma, produce induced and indirect economic benefits for communities and affected taxing jurisdictions in the general area, and directly employ some 200 to 800 employees, many of whom will come from adjacent and surrounding areas in Delaware County and neighboring counties which are suffering various degrees of economic distress.
